Web site development process
Developing a web site follows a similar pattern to the design process, so you may find some repetition on this page; for that we apologise!
When developing a website, we generally start with analysis of the various requirements from a design perspective, and delve deeper into the more technical aspects. A designer is generally only concerned with how the web site will look, where as the developer will be considering how the web site will function.
As per the design process, the same considerations will be made prior to development to ensure we're creating the functionality that is required. Throughout our time in the industry we've seen other developers getting carried away creating weird and wonderful things which detract from the realistic purpose and function of the site, leaving many aspects of their development redundant and wasted. It is important that we analyse and agree on what the site needs to do, and then stick to it!
To aid this process, we will explore:
- The nature of the business
- Existing web sites in a related industry
- The needs & expectations of the client
- The needs & expectations of the prospective visitors
Once we know what the site needs to do, we can design the functionality in conjunction with the web site design process.
So now we have agreed on the design of the web site, and how it will function, we can get to work on building it. Depending ont he complexity of what you need, this might be anything from days to months of work. Until this point, we won't know for sure how long it will all take. At the inital stages we will give you our best time estimate, but in reality we will not know for sure until we've visited and explored every corner of your web site plans.
At this stage we should be well underway witht he development process, and integrating your development requirements into the design of the web site. We'll encourage regular contact to ensure you know where we're up to, and that everything is going to plan. Upon finishing and testing the web site, we'll invite you to test it for yourself and make sure it functions as you would expect. Once you're happy with everything, we'll prepare your site to be release, and finally arrange a release strategy for your brand new web site!
